Training for Social Service Professionals
Mentor / Coach Training has an empowering impact on professionals engaged in Social Services - People Helping People.
This two-day seminar, The Mentor Leadership Training, enables participants to learn the latest trends in mentoring, identify the characteristics of successful and effective mentor programs, and receive mentoring on how to apply those principles, trends, and qualities to create or strengthen mentor strategies and initiatives. The workshop also includes ideas and materials related to mentor selection, matching, training, monitoring, evaluating and dealing with resistance as well as troubleshooting problem areas.
More and more, with the added stress of doing more with less, Social Service staff are finding themselves working in isolation rather than as a team. It is essential to support social service workers with empowering strategies that help them to support each other with mentor strategies, to communicate more effectively with team partners, and to feel like their working environment continues to be positive and healthy. It is amazing to see those organizations that have adapted Mentor Leadership Training into their work setting. These organizations become better adjusted with positive working climates. Staff turnover is reduced, the number of sick days is reduced and the positive attitude of staff reflects into their work and the clients with whom they work.
University of Waterloo
The University of Waterloo, Psychology Department, runs a Mentor Leadership Program whereby the students are trained in effective Mentor Leadership skills. The students then design and run student support programs at the university throughout the year.
